If you own a front wheel drive car, the CV (Constant Velocity) joints are what transfers power to the wheels whilst they steer your car at the same time. There are four in total.

The joints are found on both ends of the drive shafts and connect them to the wheels and transmission.

Complications can arise when the protective rubber cover (called a ‘boot’) perishes and splits. The protective grease leaks out and leaves the joint at the mercy environmental factors like dirt and moisture which cause the joint to wear at an accelerated rate.

If caught early, this can be repaired for as little as $150. The boot is simply replaced and packed with fresh grease.

However if left for too long, you may start to notice:

Clicking noises when turning hard left or hard right

Clicking noises when driving in a straight line mean the car should not be driven!

The joint can then jam or lock up, upsetting the stability of the vehicle. Now you would be looking at a $250-$300 repair.

You’ll be pleased to know that CV joints are checked as part of a standard WoF or Safety inspection, in addition to our regular servicing checklist.

If you’ve begun to notice any of the symptoms mentioned above, it means your CV joints are in need of repair.Call us now to make your booking.
